French Fare

Vancouver has some really excellent French restaurants that are both reliable and affordable. We really like Pied a Terre and Les Faux Bourgeois because their food is consistently good and their desserts excellent, and both have good wine lists.

Au Petit Chavignol
843 E. Hastings Street
604-255-4218
This 36 seat wine and cheese bar is a wonderful addition for Vancouver cheese lovers. The owners come from the amazing Les Amis Du Frommage cheese store, so they clearly know their cheese. Here you can get a four cheese mac & cheese, cheeseburgers, fondue and chevre chaud salad. Riesling and French wines are the showcases.

In a stylish interior, Boneta delivers a variety of French and Pacific Northwest cuisine in the Gastown district.

Café Régalade

A recent arrival owned by the son of La Régalade French Bistro in West Vancouver, this casual cafe serves rustic French food. The braised short ribs and cassoulet are popular.

Jules Casual French Bistro
216 Abbott Street, Vancouver

Located in Gastown, this gem of a French bistro has great food at great prices. You can’t do better than this. Run by a Parisien and his son, Jules. Busy at lunch.

Le Crocodile

604-669-4298
Vancouver’s classic French restaurant with great food and French atmosphere. Rather formal.

One of Vancouver’s oldest French restaurants, La Gavroche can be fantastic or disappointing.

Les Faux Bourgeois Bistro
663 E 15th Avenue, Vancouver

Very popular and very good. The room is a little dark if you’re sitting away from the windows but the food makes up for it. The onion soup and duck confit are good choices.
