Fish and Chips

You’ll find a slew of excellent fish and chip places in Vancouver and on the North Shore. Not only are we awash in fish, but we’re awash in transplanted Brits who wanted to bring a bit of the old country with them.

If you happen to find yourself in Horseshoe Bay, perhaps catching a ferry or getting off one, visit Trolls Fish and Chip take out a block from the ferry terminal.

Be sure to check out the concession stands in Stanley Park and other Vancouver and North Shore Parks. Most of them sell fish and chips.

The best fish and chips are located at the Dollarton Crab Shop (used to be called the Crab Shack) on Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver. This place has been around forever, but it recently moved a bit closer to town and into a brand new building.

Boathouse Restaurant

The Boathouse Restaurant is a seafood restaurant that has been in Vancouver since 1981, and now has seven locations. The food is on the expensive side, but the views are very nice. Try the halibut & chips.

C-Lovers Fish & Chips

C-Lovers has halibut, cod and haddock with hand cut kennebec fries. The new Denman location is a welcome addition.

The Crab Shop
2464 Dollarton Highway
North Vancouver, BC
Besides salmon, halibut and cod fish and chips (either regular or yam fries), the Fish Shop sells fresh fish and crab, shrimp and salmon cakes. Live crabs as well.

Go Fish
1504 West 1st Avenue, Vancouver

Their first location is at Fisherman’s Wharf, right near Granville Island. Be prepared for a long wait here, as this Go Fish is a tiny operation with a huge following. Go Fish produces wonderful orders of fish and chips made from the fresh catch of the day as well as fish tacos.

Olive and Anchor

Good fresh seafood including oysters at this casual restaurant in Horseshoe Bay. A nice spot to eat at when you’re waiting for a ferry.

Raincity Grill
1193 Denman Street, Vancouver
This high end restaurant on Denman near English Bay offers gourmet fish and chips from their take out window in addition to Pacific West Coast fare.

Dundas Fish and Chips Café
2077 Dundas Street, Vancouver
Set in an industrial neighbourhood, this restaurant serves not only fish and chips, but weekly specials such as meatloaf and turkey dinners.
