During “soul nights”, the crowds come dressed in 60’s outfits and danced to Motown sounds. The live shows are varied and fun.

Drinks are on the pricey side at this very large nightclub. There are 2 levels with lots of room to dance, and it’s best to go after 10:00 PM

The Commodore Ballroom was built in the 20’s, and was updated along the way. It is a great place for live music, especially when you get up and move on the “sprung” dance floor.
Fortune Sound Club

Located on East Pender in the heart of Chinatown, Fortune Sound Club is not in the best area, but its superior sound system is worth checking out.
Railway Club

With a focus on local live music and a nice selection of beers, the Railway Club is a nice downtown find. The clientele is refreshingly unpretentious.
Roxy Night Club

This place is popular; you have to wait in line to get in unless you arrive early. The rock music is enjoyed by a white clientele, and the cover charge is reasonable.

Waldorf – Closed January 19th

The Waldorf was a going concern when it opened 63 years ago. It has been renovated into a multi-purpose venue which includes contemporary art, music, food and special events.
